The Day family started raising sheep by purchasing two bred Columbia ewes in 1988 and had our first lambs in the spring of 1989. When the family moved to its present location on Creek Road in Noblesville, Indiana in 1991, the Columbias were sold and replaced with 10 bred polled Dorset ewes, primarily to provide lambs for the children to show in 4-H.

Romneys came to our farm in 1993 when we purchased Bob the Ram from Viki and Terry Clark in Michigan. We bred Bob to two ewes we obtained from Ray Gavin at Fiberfest that fall and had our first Romney lambs in 1994. That spring we added a few ewes from Sally Young's flock in Pennsylvania.

We so enjoyed the Romneys that we drove from a conference in California up to Oregon during the children's spring break in 1995 to visit the flocks of Lynn Barnes and Jack Kalina. Anna "pried" 5 yearling ewes from Lynn's amazing flock and added a ram from Jack (which we aptly named "Jack.") That fall we were fortunate to buy two ewe lambs from Larry and Gaylia Bullock at the national Romney show and sale at the Big E including the national sale champion. These acquisitions enabled our flock to make a quantum leap forward.

Over the years we have added ewes from Spring Hill Farm, The Pines Farm and Springfield Farms including our first natural colored ewes. Over time, we have been retaining our own ewe lambs so that today the bulk of our breeding flock is from our own breeding program.

On the ram side, we replaced "Jack" with "Lynn," a ram that was the national show and sale champion at the national Romney show held at the Oregon State Fair in 1998. He was supplemented with "Billy," a ram from Bill Bankhead's Springfield Farms in 2001 after he had won the Romney show at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival that spring. "Lynn" and "Billy" are the predominant sires of our breeding flock today.

In 2003, we decided to purchase a natural colored ram and brought home "Al," the champion ram at the national Romney show held that year at the Oregon State Fair. "Al" was a product of The Pines Farm, owned by Al and Lin Schwider. Al has sired our natural colored lamb crops in 2004 and 2005.

By 2004, we needed "fresh blood" to use on the ewes fathered by "Lynn" and "Billy" so we purchased yearling rams from the Bullocks and Lynn Barnes. These two rams sired our white lambs born in 2005 and will continue in our flock's breeding program.
